How blank is a solo performance series with the surrounding rooms and places. It is a dance based on a practice of seeing, being seen, relating and reflecting. The solo creates a system of movement improvisation in relation to everything the performer sees in their surroundings. In this way, the piece is always site specific.
The piece was originally initiated as a variation of the Solo Performance Commissioning Project by Deborah Hay, and has been since 2018 performed and developed in Helsinki and Stockholm. From the start, it has been formed into a practice based performance to be performed in nature and other spaces outside of the black box. In its development, more layers of performative concepts have been added.
How blank solos have been performed in public and semi-public rooms and spaces. This leads the artist to consider new ways of contextualizing, presenting and documenting performance.
